CAISO proposed paying batteries to stay charged during the day in readiness for summer evening peaks to maintain resource adequacy in Western heat waves.

CAISO said total storage capacity and discharge capability nearly doubled in July compared with a month before in its latest summer market performance report.

In a rare move, CAISO will use its capacity procurement mechanism to obtain more resources after other measures fell short, threatening summer blackouts.
