Legislators sent a bill to Gov. Janet Mills that would allow for up to a $1 million fine per year for utilities that fail to meet new service standards.

Environmental and consumer advocates told the Maine PUC that a recently proposed rulemaking on utility performance does not satisfy current climate laws.
