As clean energy development challenges in New England have mounted over the past several years, Massachusetts agencies are facing a massive influx of alternative compliance payments from electricity suppliers to meet the state’s array of clean electricity standards.
A recent report by Groundwork Data illustrates the savings in store for all-electric building owners as gas costs increase in the state.
The slow rate of approvals of new municipal aggregations at the state’s Department of Public Utilities has limited the reach of these programs, the researchers said.
Consumers and communities should be aware of the type and location of RECs that they are purchasing, according to the Green Energy Consumers Alliance.
